Frances Landel is a conflicted soul. When she is painting out in nature, she can be very lyrical (depending on the bug situation). At other times, especially in her drawings, she shows a darker and edgier side -the yin and yang of life. Then she is struck by life's humorous "what ifs" (a deer driving a truck with the man strapped on the back, Venus in the swamp, or Monet on a lily pad.)
Frances graduated in 2003 with a B.F.A degree (magna cum laude) from the Georgia State School of Art wand Design. Her previous degree in English Literature is from Emory University.
Landel has shown locally and nationally in many juried shows and has won awards for her work. She is a member of various art organizations and has had residencies at the Vermont Studio Center. Her initial life studies were with Constantin and Marc Chatov in Atlanta. She has participated in various national workshops.
Her recent work reflects her move from Atlanta to the small coastal town of Darien, Georgia. It is also influenced by recent travels. She works in oil, pastel and mixed media. Her works are in various collections throughout the United States.
